Man Drowns in Allen's Creek, Deputies Say

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office asks for help identifying a man found "struggling" in a creek behind a small shopping center on U.S. 19. in Clearwater.

A man drowned in a Clearwater lake after two men who had been fishing behind a small shopping center on U.S. 19 saw him "struggling in the water" Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The fishermen said the man, who was wearing blue jean shorts, became unresponsive as they tried to rescue him. They called emergency officials around 2:45 p.m., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The 51-year-old man was taken to Largo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 3:40 p.m., according to a news release.

Deputies say the man very recently relocated to Pinellas County and is believed to be from South Carolina. His name will be released after his family is notified.
