Injured Labor Day Bicyclist Dead

Hilary Michalak, 27, of Largo, died from injuries sustained after being hit by a truck on the Memorial Causeway in the early morning hours of Labor Day.

A Largo bicyclist injured since a Labor Day accident on the Memorial Causeway has died.

Hilary Michalak, 27, of Largo, died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after a truck hit her and Robert Lemon as they rode a tandem bike around 6:15 a.m. Sept. 2, Rob Shaw, Clearwater Police spokesman, said in a release. 

Lemon, 25, died the day of the accident at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

, 29, blacked out after driving home from work at Shephard's on Clearwater Beach and doesn't remember anything until he awoke in the shower later Sept. 2 and saw the incident on the news.

Weed's 1997 Nissan pickup truck was found parked in his backyard without a windshield.

Weed was arrested the next day and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.

"That second charge is likely to be upgraded because of Michalak's death, but it will be up to the Pasco-Pinellas State Attorney's Office to do that," Shaw said.

Weed remains in Pinellas County Jail.
