Gun Used in Accidental Teen Shooting was Stolen

The gun used in an accidental shooting Thursday was stolen from a vehicle earlier in the week, according to Clearwater Police.

Ryan Greenlee was with other friends at a house on the 1300 block of Browning Street playing with the Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, when it went off.

The gun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle sometime between 2 p.m. Aug. 1 and 11 a.m. Aug. 2 on the 1200 block of Highland Avenue, according to Clearwater Police.

It was brought to the house by one of the juveniles, detectives said. And they are investigating how the gun got into their possession.

The adults who were home at the time had no knowledge or involvement with the weapon, investigators said.

Greenlee, 15, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken by Bayflite to Bayfront Medical Center.
