Firefighters Hope to 'Keep the Wreath Green'

Green lights will be changed to red on a 72-inch wreath at Clearwater Fire Administration Headquarters for every fire related to holiday decorations. Officials hope it stays green.

Clearwater Fire and Rescue is hoping to keep its wreath green for the holiday season.

For every fire determined to be related to holiday decorations, a bulb on the 72 inch wreath will be changed to red. The goal is to keep all the bulbs green.

"We hope this will help raise awareness about the potential hazards of holiday decorations," said Elizabeth Watts, public safety spokeswoman, in a release.

The "Keep the Wreath Green" campaign for the holidays is designed to raise fire safety awareness for residents and businesses and encourage them to decorate safely.

Firefighters hung the wreath, which was donated by Super Target at Clearwater Mall, outside Fire Station 45, Clearwater Fire Administration Headquarters, 610 Franklin St.
