Did Lightning Spark Clearwater House Fire?

Quick action by about two dozen first responders from Clearwater Fire & Rescue kept a suspected lightning fire from spreading throughout a Woodside Drive home  Wednesday.

According to Clearwater Fire & Rescue, a call came in from 820 Woodside Drive at 4:20 p.m., as a band of thunderstorms swept in from the east. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for the area at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters arrived seven minutes later. The two people inside the house when the fire erupted got out safely; no injuries were reported.

Firefighters had to saw open a portion of the attic on the south side of the house. The fire appeared to be smoldering in the attic, which was used as a storage area.

The house is located just outside the city limits of Clearwater in an unincorporated area that Clearwater Fire & Rescue serves.
