Cold Case: New Details in 2008 Taxi Driver Homicide

Clearwater detectives released new information and enhanced video surveillance of the suspect at Fat Daddy's Watering Hole in Dunedin on the morning four years ago that a 51-year-old taxi driver was discovered shot to death on U.S. 19 in Clearwater

Clearwater Police homicide detectives released new details and digitally-enhanced video of man suspected of killing and robbing a taxi driver four years ago Monday.

Detectives hope the new information will help solve the cold case and locate the man they believe may have shot, killed and robbed Jack Lagrand, a Yellow Cab taxi driver.

Some of the newly enhanced video and still photos show the suspect just before the robbery at Fat Daddy's Watering Hole in Dunedin. The surveillance video depicts the man taking a seat at an empty table and looking around the room. Detectives say the man was picked up by a cab at 1:27 a.m.

The suspect showed up in another suveillance video after leaving the scene where Lagrand's body was discovered around 7:30 a.m., detectives said.

Lagrand, 51, was found in the rear of a stip mall at 25716 US Hwy 19 N in Clearwater four years ago on Sept. 17, 2008. He was dead of a gunshot wound that detectives believe was inflicted with a Makarov 9mm, a Russian-made firearm.

"We're hoping that releasing specific information about the murder weapon may provide additional leads," Clearwater Homicide Detective Thomas Dawe said in a news release.

The suspect is described as a man, possibly Hispanic, who stands approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9. He had a thin build and short dark hair.

He was captured on surveillence wearing a white T-shirt with a black skull design across the upper back and skeleton hands on the front shoulders. He was also wearing dark colored shorts.
