Clearwater Police Bust Credit Card Ring

Clearwater Police said three suspects carried more than 30 phony credit cards used to buy dozens of Walmart gift cards.

Clearwater Police announced that they arrested three Tampa men in connection to a credit card scam at Walmart.

The case involved the alleged use of phony credit cards to purchase $3,500 in gift cards, police said.

According to police, officers were called to Walmart, at 23106 U.S. 19 North,  Friday evening after store security allegedly saw a suspect trying to use a phony credit card to buy gift cards. 

Clearwater Police allege that three suspects had in their possession a total of 34 fraudulent fraudulent credit cards, as well as 54 gift cards they had purchased. 

Charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud were:

  • Ricardo Martinez, 33, 7051 Hollowell Drive, Tampa;
  • Pedro Ernesto Garcia Hernandez, 24, 8507 N. Tampa St.;
  • Jose Ramon Garcia Capdevilla, 24, Tampa.

The three men were booked into Pinellas County Jail.
