Clearwater Bicyclist in Critical Condition After Crash

Authorities said the driver that hit the Clearwater bicyclist ran a red light.

A Clearwater bicyclist was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries after a car failed to stop at a red light and struck the bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gerald Mullen, 48, was riding his bike southbound on McMullen Booth Road in the marked crosswalk at Union Street when authorities said a car driven by 50-year-old Brian Wilstein did not stop for a right turn on red.

That is when Wilstein's 2009 Porsche hit Mullen, the highway patrol said in a news release.

Charges are pending.
