Body Found Is Missing Swimmer

The body of swimmer James Poindexter, who went missing Labor Day, was found Wednesday afternoon about four miles off shore.

A body recovered by Clearwater Fire and Rescue officials Wednesday afternoon is that of a swimmer who went missing Labor Day.

The clothing and jewelry found on the body match those worn by James Poindexter at the time he went missing, Rob Shaw, public safety spokesman, said in a release.

Someone aboard a 31-foot catamaran saw the body floating about four miles off shore around 1:43 p.m. A fire boat went to retrieve the body and bring it back to shore.

After searching much of Monday and for nearly six hours Tuesday in rough currents, the search for Poindexter, 27, who went missing swimming near Sand Key, was called off.
