Police: Alcohol May Have Been a Factor in Deadly Bicycle Crash

Clearwater Police have identified a bicyclist killed Thursday night on Drew Street. They also released new details about the crash

Clearwater Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a deadly crash involving a car and a bicyclist Thursday night.

Investigators say Henry Rackard, 57, of Clearwater was trying to cross from the north side of Drew Street to the south side when he was hit by a 1994 Buick driven by Milton Lee Smallwood, 54. It happened at 6:36 pm near the intersection of Drew Street and North Evergreen Avenue. Rackard died at the scene, said Elizabeth Watts, police spokeswoman.

Friday evening, Clearwater Police said in a news release that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but no other details were given.
