Five Things to Know Today

School ends and summer fun starts, more railroad repairs are needed at McMullen Booth Road, the City Council meets at its new time, and more is going on in Clearwater Thursday (June 7).

 

1. School is out for summer (after today). Expect up to an inch of rain as showers and thunderstorms will cover much of the area after 8 a.m. and a high of 85, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Although it should not impact the morning rush hour commute, as crews work on repairs to a concrete transition panel at the railway crossing after 9 a.m. The lane is expected to reopen sometime next week.

3. City leaders will to the in honor of neighborhood leader Walter C. Campbell at the City Council meeting at 5 p.m. at , 112 S Osceola Ave. Public discussion items will start after 6 p.m.

4. All pastries are half price at the 's Refresh Café as part of customer appreciation day to honor the last day of school. Let the staff know how well they did as the coffee and snack bar is staffed by students of the Pinellas County Schools Exceptional Program. Summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday - Thursday from June 18 to July 24. It will be closed July 25 and reopens Aug. 20.

5. Threshers third baseman Cody Asche will join pitcher Jesse Biddle, Adam Morgan, Austin Rupp and catcher Cameron Rupp as members of the Floida State League All Star team. Asche was recently added after Lakeland third baseman Nick Castellanos was promoted to Double-A Erie. Asche holds a .346 batting average with two home runs and 20 RBIs.
