Eric Bana Brutalizes Britain

Gods, Demons, And The British Government

Closed Circuit…Bana Brutalizes Britain

The new movie Closed Circuit with its fast paced trailers filled with fiery rhetoric should not be confused with the small robot movie Short Circuit (1986) that starred Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg. At times, though, Closed Circuit moves in predictable robotic fashion. It seems that this is the British way for solving unspeakable crimes and governmental misdeeds.

There are 2 million security cameras in the United Kingdom. Watchdog groups say 4.3 million. In addition to the tens of thousands of security cameras that homes and businesses in London have, an additional 10,000 cameras are in their crime-fighting network.

It is inconceivable to think that a terrorist can drive an eighteen-foot truck into an open market and detonate its contents and kill 200 people without any photos or trace of the truck’s driver, beginning, or route. Someone in the audience had to be naïve or they wouldn’t have made the movie.

Eric Bana, Julia Stiles, and Rebecca Hall are the trio responsible for collecting evidence to defend and get the terrorist patsy, traitor off.  They work for the British court system. It seems this terrorist is a double agent Britain planted in a terrorist cell and were then double-crossed. The death-dealing explosion followed! Not something you want your ‘ale loving’ Brits to know. The government goes to no ends to keep this secret hidden throughout.

Eric Bana is a good actor and kisser. He doesn’t do any kissing in this one, even though, his ex-lover is Rebecca Hall and his partner in this mystery. This is the ninth time in this column that we are on the side of kissing in movies to drive the action.

You will leave this movie and say thank god the British Secret service is as disjointed as our organizations in sharing information and cooperating with each other. Jack of Twenty-Four knows this all too well.

Percy Jackson: The Sea Of Monsters by Rick Riordan

The second movie in the popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians five book series is a boon for the creative writing and literature teacher as well as the parent worried about the content in movies their children are attending.

The books in the series introduce everyone in the pantheon of Greek and Roman mythology. Kronos was the first omnipotent ruler in their mythology. Kronos is defeated by Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. His Titans are banned to the Netherland. Kronos is shackled and wants out of his imprisonment.

Fly to the present day where a camp of the god’s friends, mythological creatures, and minor gods like Dionysus (Stanley Tucci) exist in the American back woods. Percy is the son of Poseidon and one of the only offspring of the gods until his brother arrives in camp.

Upon her death, Thalia, the tree nymph, has created a protective bubble that protects the camp. The theme sounds like Monday night television’s Under The Doom. Every ogre and Titan wants to destroy the campground and its inhabitants. Are you still with us? The Greeks have a god for everything they couldn’t explain. Their god’s sub-stories would rival the intrigue in a Shakespeare play.

The bubble is being destroyed and only The Golden Fleece can save it and the camp. Kronos needs The Golden Fleece to overcome his imprisonment. Percy and his camp friends go on a quest to find the Fleece. Creative roadblocks, multiple battles, and Kronos’s misdirection will fill a vitamin jar with little pills of movie awe and wonder…...Let me know, please, if anyone knows what this means!

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Just when you thought you could take that timesaving, dark alley, 1AM shortcut to home, the new movie The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones appears from the shadows. While in the shadows, Instruments unleashes every demon, Shadowhunter, vampire, mundane (human), warlock, and monster that ever appeared in your nightmares. They all have Bruce Lee skills and ancient weapons that would make Alexander the Great proud.

Their time portal is outstanding, also. City of Bones is the first book in Cassandra Clare’s six book series and is followed by:

Your high school library’s multiple copies of each of the first five books is surely depleted. In ‘checked out heaven’ you might say, if you were a librarian! The power of the book’s appeal can be seen by this fact and the fact that ten million people viewed the movie’s trailer. These two powers, however, didn’t translate to high school kids in theater seats as Mortal Instruments’ poor opening grosses might curtail the planning for the next movies in the series.

Once again, we can be happy that high school students are saving the world in a number of movies this month and in future months. Most adults this weekend, especially in Philadelphia, were too busy at the Beyonce festival and JayZ party on Benjamin Franklin Parkway and The Art Museum steps.

Clarissa (Clary) is just a normal high school student and artist. As her eighteenth birthday approaches, she begins the knowledge acquisition and change that will transition her from a mundane to a somewhat angelic Shadowhunter. Jace her guide and movie’s heartthrob will allow her to battle for the earth’s survival.
