What is Respite Care?

Respite care is short-term relief for someone caring for a friend or family member. In-home respite care is often the preferred choice for many families as it allows a temporary caregiver to provide care to the individual within the comfort of their own home.

Why Respite Care is Important

According to the National Family Caregiving Association:

  •  30 percent of caregivers are over age 65
  • 17 percent of family caregivers provide more than 40 hours of care per week
  • Family caregivers experiencing extreme stress have been shown to age prematurely

  • Companionship and supervised activities
  • Personal care such as exercising or overseeing medication dosage

In-home respite care can be especially helpful to those seniors with Dementia. Often times, a person with dementia may have difficulty adjusting to a new environment. In-home care allows the overall adjustment to become easier.

Give yourself a break every once in a while. You have to be willing to accept help sometimes and care for yourself, otherwise you won't be able to care for the ones you love.
