July 3rd Minor League Reviews: Joey Gallo
On the eve of July 4th, Joey Gallo, a current double A third-baseman for the Frisco Roughriders, became one of the fastest minor league ballplayers ever to hit 30 home-runs in a season. Gallo initially hit the first 21 homers at A advanced Myrtle Beach Pelicans, while continuing to hit for an excellent average of .313. Playing the double A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, the Arkansas Travelers, Gallo went 1 for 5 in a 2-0 win. Although Roughrider fans could not see the memorable home run at home, Gallo's homer proved to crucial for the low scoring game. Nonetheless, since the Texas Rangers are in desperate need of a productive, young outfielder, Joey Gallo may have an upcoming opportunity to play on Major League Baseball's levels. This previous season, Gallo clubbed 40 homers, lifting the Hickory Crawdad's hopes in spite of a possible playoff run.
