Summer Reading Program at Clearwater Public Library

Clearwater Public Library has exciting and fun programs and activities to keep your children reading all summer.

Over at the Clearwater Public library we are pretty excited about our upcoming summer youth programs. We have plenty of activities designed for children from birth to 18. And of course, they are all free! Check out our  calendar to see what works best for your schedule.

We will have kickoffs at each library location starting Saturday, June 8, at 2 pm, at our East Branch, located at 2251 Drew Street. Kickoffs at other locations include: Main (100 N.Osceola Avenue) Monday, June 10, at 2 pm, Countryside (2741 S.R. 580) Tuesday, June 11, at 2 pm, and North Greenwood (905 N MLK Jr. Avenue) Wednesday, June 12, at 2 pm. At these kickoff events you can register for summer reading and receive a free book. Return each week to report your reading and receive a prize. "Reading with the Rays" is returning again this summer so you can sign up to earn prizes and a free baseball ticket after completing 24 hours of reading.

For our teens, ages 13 to 18, we will roll out our new online "40 Days of Summer Teen Challenge".  If you can survive the five weekly challenges posted to our library's Facebook page you can win chances for weekly prizes and a shot at the grand prize of a Samsung seven-inch tablet PC.

Research shows that children who do not read at least four grade-level books over the summer break will lose two months' worth of reading skills. This is called summer slump. Our goal is to help you avoid that slump by making reading fun and assessable. We wish all our families a wonderful and relaxing summer and hope to see you at the library!
