Smart, Sustainable “Computers in a Box” Make Technology Attainable

Goodwill-Suncoast and Creative Recycling Systems, two local “green giants” team up to sell quality pre-owned computers at an affordable price.

Tampa, FL — Just in time for back to school, shoppers can buy complete refurbished pre-owned personal computers – with a flat screen monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse and a full 90-day warranty – for just $189.99 at Goodwill.

Creative Recycling Systems (CRS) and Goodwill-Suncoast are partnering to offer complete computer systems preloaded with Windows® 7 operating systems at Goodwill-Suncoast stores. The collaboration launched on July 19 and is initially limited to Goodwill’s Brandon superstore at 1106 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, FL.

The computer systems come from Bargain Computers (Bargain), part of the CRS family. Bargain is a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher. It receives computers from organizations, businesses, and government entities that no longer need them. If the computers are in optimal condition, they go through a rigorous process that includes sanitizing data on the hard drives and testing--producing a "like new" complete computer.

Rather than ending up in landfills (where electronics contribute 70% of toxins) these computer systems can land in the hands of consumers who can’t afford or don’t want to spend more for a personal computer.

“We are thrilled to work with Creative Recycling and Bargain Computers as they share our ideals of sustainability and reuse,” said Kym Bandy, vice president of acquisitions and allocations at Goodwill-Suncoast. “The Goodwill brand is focused on helping the public and listening to our market.  With computers playing such a large part in our everyday lives, we jumped at the opportunity to offer affordable computers to our customers.”

“The Science of Reuse is more than just a tagline. It’s our entire operating philosophy,” said Brian Diesselhorst, senior vice president of CRS and Bargain. “Each year, CRS is able to keep close to 300 million pounds of electronics out of landfills and Bargain puts a large percentage of those units back into the market for a second life.”

"With the resources we have, and the needs of the Tampa Bay market, it was a natural partnership," said Brad Brown, director of strategic business development at CRS. "One of our goals is to offer these sustainable products to more households across the country."
