CLEARWATER: In the year since the fictional former accountant James P. Mac Leroy inherited a theater from his aunt, he has built a strong theater company and is turning a profit. But when his Cousin Evalou comes to town, determined to retire from showbiz, it is up to James and his players to change her mind.
How well he does or doesn’t achieve this is the core of the 4th Annual Sunscreen Presents a Night on Broadway benefit concert and review.
This year, two shows will be produced – a gala evening performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, and a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 23. (Doors open one hour before show time). The show is being held at the historic , with ticket prices ranging from $15 to $50.
The event features the talents of Joanie Sigal, Tom Godfrey, Jessy Leros, LD Sledge, Alan Mehanna, Elena Warner, Colleen Lindsey, Wiso Gossett, Saiyo Shaw, Julianne Bourdeau and Melissa Ryan.
The audience will enjoy a show-within-a-show, as the performers of the fictional Mac Leroy Theater Company perform excerpts of their successful shows of the past year and rehearse their upcoming season. Highlights include songs from Funny Girl, West Side Story, Evita and Hairspray.
Admission includes a Golden Age of Hollywood refreshment buffet. At the evening performance on the Sept. 22, there will also be a silent auction and cash bar.
