Boil Water Notice for Some Clearwater Beach Residents

A boil water notice is issued for some residents who live near East Shore Drive.

A boil water notice is issued for some Clearwater Beach residents living near East Shore Drive.

The reason?

A water main break on Papaya Street between Poinsettia Avenue and East Shore Drive that serves some hotels and restaurants on north Clearwater Beach Wednesday.

The Precautionary Boil Water Notice is for 55 Papaya Street and 11 addresses along East Shore Drive (441, 430, 428, 423, 426, 425, 427, 419, 408, 403, and 401).

Water samples have been taken to a lab for analysis. Officials expect to have results by Aug. 3. A rescission notice will be issued when the water samples are reported clear.

Crews from the city's Public Utilities department are on-site making emergency repairs to restore the main.

The cause of the break is not certain but is believed to be related to construction of the $1.6 million Mandalay Stormwater Outfall project.

The project is increasing stormwater piping and adding a filter system that is expected to reduce trash and debris from getting into open waters.

City utility crews have begun the repair of the 12" cast iron water main, and the repair will be completed sometime Wednesday.

Traffic is not impacted because of the break.
