November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

Clearwater ― Suncoast Hospice joins hospices across America and National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in celebrating National Hospice and Palliative Care Month in November. NHPCO’s theme for the month is Hospice. Care on Your Terms.

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month spotlights the unique focus of hospice care and palliative care to improve the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of seriously ill patients and support their families. Some of the important facts about hospice care are:

Care may be provided to:
·         People of all ages and medical conditions
·         People at any place, i.e. homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities
·         People with Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, etc. and those who aren’t able to pay

J. Donald Schumacher, NHPCO president and CEO, shared, “Every year, more than 1.65 million people living with a life-limiting illness receive care from hospice and palliative care providers in this country. These highly-trained professionals provide quality medical care, working to make sure patients and families find dignity, respect, and love during life’s most difficult journey.”

Suncoast Hospice has provided high-quality hospice and palliative care to patients and families in Pinellas County for 36 years. Suncoast Hospice care teams respect the wishes of patients and families and enhance their quality of life with skilled pain and symptom management, emotional counseling, spiritual care, caregiver support, advance care planning assistance and more.

“Our goal is to immediately focus on the pain and symptoms and resolve that for our patients. Our care teams are focused on achieving comfort,” said Rafael J. Sciullo, president and CEO of Suncoast Hospice.
