Keen interest in Pinellas Virtual School means shorter application period

Due to the high volume of interest in Pinellas Virtual School, the deadline for applying for this year is being moved from Friday, Aug. 30, to Friday, Aug. 23. The district will no longer be accepting applications for Pinellas Virtual School for this academic year beyond 5 p.m. on the 23rd.

“In only four years we’ve reached the point where demand has surpassed capacity, similar to the situation with District Application Programs such as magnets and fundamentals,” said Director of Academic Computing Pat Lusher. “We want to maintain the quality of the program by not placing more students in a classroom than existing resources can support, so we’re closing the application process a week early.”

Lusher said she was pleased that enrollment expectations – 100 students for kindergarten through fifth grade and 200 students for sixth through 12th grade – were met earlier in the enrollment process than anticipated. She added that all applications received by 5 p.m. Friday will be processed and students will be placed in the appropriate virtual class.
