High School Football Kicks Off, Family Night With the Threshers

Some high school football classics kick off the start of the season. Find out what else is going on in Clearwater Friday, Aug. 23.

Family Night at the Ballpark
Take the family out to catch the Threshers as they take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at Bright House Field, 601 N Old Coachman Road. A special offer gets you four box seats, four hot dogs, sodas and chips for $28. Check out the Threshers website for more information.

Road Closed in South Greenwood

The southbound lane of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue from Lakeview Road to Woodlawn Avenue will be closed through Aug. 30 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. as crews work to replace a water line. Drivers can use Missouri and Fort Harrison avenues as detours. Call 727-562-4750.


Ski Club Kick Off Party
The Clearwater/St. Pete Ski Club, also knowns as the SnowSharks, 30th annual kickoff party is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the East Bay Country Club, 702 Country Club Drive in Largo. The event also is a fundraiser to help the Bay Pines disabled veterans winter sports attend the Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass, CO in March 2014.

Rays Going to the Dogs?
As the Tampa Bay Rays consider locations for a new stadium one Hillsborough County Commission has a suggestion that may or not be doggone far-fetched. Victor Crist thinks the team should consider the home of the former Tampa Greyhound Track in Sulphur Springs, according to the Tampa Bay Times. What do you think about the idea?

Summer Weather Continues

Those hoping for a break from afternoon storms might be out of luck today. The National Weather Service says we have about a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. On the upside, the earlier part of the day should be pretty sunny with a high in the low 90s.
