STEM Initiative and the Public Library

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education Coalition is advocating for improved education in these critical areas of studies.

This is exciting to public libraries as it brings attention to all the wonderful materials we house in our non-fiction stacks as well as articles and reports in our academic databases.

Below are some interesting titles we have at the Clearwater Public Library to excite our future leaders:

  • Kakapo Rescue: Saving the World's Strangest Parrot by Sy Montgomery. - The story of the scientific efforts of rangers and volunteers to restore the population of this flightless parrot.
  • Life in the Ocean: The Story of Oceanographer Sylvia Earle by Claire Nivola - Earle's interest in ocean conservation began with her explorations of the Gulf of Mexico when she lived north of Clearwater, Florida as a child.
  • Reaching For the Moon by Buzz Aldrin. - Aldrin describes two of his early passions, rock collecting and science. Later as an astronaut he would get the chance to combine them by gathering rocks on the moon.
