Volunteers Clean Up Glen Oaks Park

Volunteers took to boats, canoes and kayaks in the largest turnout effort in four years to clean Glen Oaks Park and its waterway Oct. 8.
In all, they collected enough trash and debris to fill an 8 yard trash bin, with finds including a shopping cart, mattress and a 25 foot irrigation pipe, said Sarah Josuns, environmental specialist for the city.
"It was a beautiful day and we had a great turnout," Josuns said. "A waterway clean up has occurred at Glen Oaks Park for the past four years and this was the best turn out by far."
Some of the 37 volunteers, wore waders and walked the waters edge collecting trash and debris.
The city and Keep Pinellas Beautiful provided boats and a handful of volunteers brought their own canoes or kayaks, Josuns said.
A Keep Pinellas Beautiful cleanup as part of the International Coastal Cleanup is planned at Caladesi Island at 10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 15).
