Tropical Storm Isaac Forms, Bay Area Threat Unknown

The storm’s projected track has forecasters saying RNC planners and Bay area residents should keep their eyes and ears open.

Tropical Depression Nine is now Tropical Storm Isaac.

While the storm is currently east of Puerto Rico, the five-day forecast puts it close enough to Florida that residents should be mindful of developments over the next few days, said Jennifer Colson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office.

“We’re going to be monitoring it,” she said. “It’s too early to say” where it will go.

The storm’s general direction, however, is cause for Tampa Bay area residents to start getting ready – just in case.

With the Republican National Convention starting on Sunday with a kick-off party at St. Petersburg's Tropicana Field, residents and convention goers need to be watching for updates.

Residents should be “watching it, absolutely,” she said. Now is also a good time to double check hurricane kits, supplies and evacuation plans, she added.

“Make sure nothing’s changed as far as where you’re going to evacuate.”

Colson said the five-day track puts the storm just outside the Keys. The potential threat to Florida will become more clear as the week progresses and the RNC gets closer.

While Isaac’s eventual path remains a mystery, Colson said Tampa Bay has its own concerns right now.

“We currently have quite a bit of active weather going through the Tampa Bay area,” she said. A special advisory has been issued for Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Residents there might see wind gusts of up to 50 mph through 6 p.m. The storms are also likely to bring deadly lightning and possible hail, she said.

Rain chances remain high in most of the Bay area through Thursday with a gradual tapering off over the weekend.

To all those supporting the Romney/AKIN/Ryan ticket: Do you think Obama is using cloud-seeding drones to direct Isaac toward the Tampa area to disrupt the Republican National Convention? Sounds like something you'd believe.

George, have you ever read this?

www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1343470/Have-scientists-discovered-create-downpours-desert.html

FYI: I hate them all..........the R's and the D's are the same........and I'd imagine the RNC folks are more worried about the Dr. Ron Paul backers bucking the system than partner in crime, Obama.

BTW, the Frank Marshall Davis story falls in line much better than all the other mumbo jumbo distractions.

Sam, thanks for the links. I hadn't seen these particular links but It is no secret that we have been involved in storm and weather modification research for quite some time.

I agree with you on the Democrats and the Republicans. Neither party is worth the effort to walk across the street to piss on them if you see they're on fire. We are a resilient people and will survive whichever group of clowns we elect in November.

I'm just in this for the entertainment value and right now the Republicans are providing better comedic material. They are so easily taken off message, i.e., JOBS. Sometimes the Democrats take them off message with something Biden says and sometimes that shoot themselves in the foot a la Akin and Ryan. They are a laugh riot and I'm enjoying the show.

Are umbrellas still prohibited at the RNC because they can be used as weapons?

Does that mean the roof at The Trop has to come down? It's obviously an umbrella also.

Actually, there are several reasons for them being listed as a prohibited item. For example, they can protect the attacking protestor from tazers, from mace, etc. There are too many reason to list, in reality....but it still is going to be silly to ban such an item in ''this'' city. I think most people read : ''No Umbrellas Allowed'', and then laugh to themselves...and think ''yeah...right''.
What the rule does is give enforcement agents 'the right'' to arrest someone they see with an umbrella ''if they want to''...but you don't have to be a genius to figure out they are going to use descretion. They are not going to arrest people using an umbrella in the rain..it simply is ''not'' going to happen. It is rediculous to believe otherwise.

George, persons born in Kenya are unaware of what cloud seeding means. Talk about believing in fantasy!

OK Gary, you birthers have to get your stories straight. Was he born in Kenya or is his real father not Barack Obama Senior but Frank Marshall Davis, the radical poet and journalist who was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party USA? By the way, is it possible he was the product of a "legitimate" rape or is that an "Illegitmate" rape? You know the one that will get a woman pregnant?

Let's check in with Pat Robertson, as to why the hurricane is headed for the RNC in Tampa.
Robertson has a history of blaming natural disasters and terrorist acts on the victims. After the 2010 Haiti earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people, Robertson commented that Haitians had made a “pact to the devil” and were being “cursed” through the earthquake. He suggested that Hurricane Katrina was the result of legal abortion, according to Time Magazine. And in the wake of 9/11, Robertson had a now (in-)famous exchange with the late Jerry Falwell in which the two religious leaders suggested that the United States “deserved” the attacks for its tolerance of secularism, gays, abortion, feminists and pagans.
Pat,
What have those Republicans been up to?

J.R., to tell you the truth I almost never watch MSNBC. They're not very funny - take this shit much too seriously. I get my material from FOX, Newsmax, and, probably the zaniest of all, Joseph Farah's WND (World Nut Daily).

I like politics for the entertainment value only. Neither of the major parties gives a rat's ass about you or me or anyone else for that matter. So why get yourself in a tizzy about it? Just relax and try to have some fun. At this point in time, the Republicans seem to have the edge in providing good comedic material. Obama has been a poor president and anybody with the least amount of sanity and discipline should be running away with this election. But NOOO! What do we have? Lord and Lady Romney are much more worried about people envying their success even though she claims they aren't wealthy. What's up with that? You don't feel wealthy with $250 million? Poor baby.

Now we have Akin and Ryan with the religious right's obsession with the reproductive organs of the female of the species.

These are strictly self-induced wounds.

Fortunately, we are a resilient people and we will survive whichever party doesn't self-destruct between now and November.

Reporter from Bay News 9 brought up a good point tonight. With all the barricades in place in Tampa, would that not make it hard for a evacuation effort if needed?

David, that's Obama's secret plan; seed the clouds, make a hurricane, then hold all the Republicans in with barricades and drown them like rats.:)
I really like this sneaky Kenyan:)

Am I the only that finds it humorous that the documentation needed to be a citizen, social security card, job related, tax related, etc.. Obama has. But we still have people questioning his birth. Come on people, at this point it doesn't matter. Let me repeat for the really slow ones , "IT DOESN"T MATTER". The man is already president, you can quit that agrument. I have no problems with agruments over his policy, taxes, decisions, career. But the same documentation that you, I, and the rest of the country uses for proof of birth and citizenship. He has and it has been ratified by the U.S. Government. Do you really think that the CIA and Secret Service's research is going to be wrong and some fearmonger is going to be correct.

Who really believe's they are going to arrest people if they are seen with an umbrella?
In this city, with our climate, that is just too funny.
The irony in this is the fact that it will likely be the convention people that will have them..and nearly every single one of them. I'll believe it when I see it if they try to hassel people about umbrellas.

That is the irony of that whole thing. Do they believe the Penguin is going to come in with his umbrella weapons?
The people attending are going to be more powerful than the people trying to stop them from bringing them in.

There will be no problem for republicans attending the convention with umbrellas, the poilce have been trained to spot republicans. They look like Zombies, have blank stares, do not repond to reason, and will be desperately searching for brains :)

...you must be one of our new temporary residents living in our Parks or the provided vacant lots..and are probably stealing electricity somewhere to charge up your laptop. Hope you enjoy our heat and humidity. I enjoy it also, but from my cozy home with AC, etc. (awww...jealous? you can fix that by getting a real job) Must be nice to get paid to support a cause you don't even believe in or know anything about. Guess it will keep you fed, though...right? For that, I am thankfull for you. I'd even buy you a meal. Enjoy your freedom of speech, just keep it within the law...and it is all good. There is no harm in us having different causes or people we support. I have been amused by many of your comments, and trust you are being sarcastic. I like that, but at the same time...I am sure many here take you dead serious with your violent spin.

Oh, don't worry about and major Zombie attacks, the people with brains will be safetly secured behind barricades in what they are calling "protest zones". However these people will not be allowed umbrellas because the police do not want them to poke out at the Zombies through the barricades and get them all worked up :)

You can also fill ice chests. Another good method is to take heavy plastic trash bags, and put them in strong cardboard boxes/plastic tubs, and fill them with water. For a short term, water like that ''could'' be drank and/or used for cooking/etc if it was an emergency. We have rain barrels, and that water could be used for cleaning or even the toilet to make it flush. they hold 55 gallons of water, and that much water can last a while. Keep in mind, that in major storms, the potential of utility company issues ''could'' last for ''weeks''...not simply the few hours or a day from a common thunderstorm power outage. Even the recent storm, ''Debby'', had some people without various utilities for more than two weeks and more. We were out power for 4 days, and I live in St Pete. Flooding can contaminate the water supply wher the water plants can't keep up with purifying it for all the people around here. Florida is very densely populated over most of the entire state. The water plants have a ''big job'', and it does not take much to cause them big problems.
