The Pub Crawler: O'Boobigan's Irish Bar and Grill

Don't let the name fool you – this is a good, old fashioned neighborhood bar.

Let’s get this out of the way right off the top – no, O’Boobigan’s is not a strip bar.

It’s not even a place where scantily-clad waitresses parade around in brightly colored satin shorts, selling skin as much as skinless wings.

What O’Boobigan’s is is a fun, footloose, Florida-style bar, a place where you can watch the game, hang out with friends or coworkers, and even bring the family in for a meal.

“Everybody immediately thinks it’s a strip joint,” general manager Cedrick Turner said. “What we really are is a friendly neighborhood bar where you can come in, let your hair down and have a good time.”

Located on the corner of US 19 and Ulmerton Road, O’Boobigan’s has been in business since 2006. When new ownership took over in February of 2010, the last thing they wanted to do was change the controversial name.

“That’s our hook. Nobody ever forgets it,” Turner says proudly, adding they constantly sell out their tee shirts and have decided to add caps to the apparel line.

Boasting a menu of pub-style food such as shepherd’s pie, Guinness burgers, reubens and yes, wings, O’Boobigan’s also has some fantastic drink specials, such as $.99 drafts and $3 wells every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 2-for-1 wells and drafts on Tuesdays from open to close.

Live music is a staple of the place as well. On Wednesday night is the Blues Jam with Jerry Chase, where patrons are encouraged to sit in with the band.

Free billiards daily, free WiFi, an outdoor tiki deck and several flat screen TVs with sports packages round out the list of features that keep O’Boobigan’s customers coming back.

And not a stripper pole or pair of satin shorts to be found.
