While Tropical Storm Debby swirls off shore, the Gulf of Mexico and local waterways are rising and heavy rainfall from Sunday still has many Clearwater Beach residents underwater.

Those looking to keep flood waters at bay, free sand is available, just bring your own bags 24 hours a day to the city's Public Works Complex, 1650 N. Arcturas Ave.

"We provide sand for any type of flooding or heavy rainfall if it continues for a longer period of time," said Heather Parsons, a city spokeswoman. "We make sand available to our residents when the ground becomes oversaturated and if it’s occurring for a lingering period of time."

Bags are available at most home improvement stores

The self-serve sand is outside the fence on Arcturas Avenue. Sand is available while it lasts. Make sure to cover the sand after filling bags.

Call the Public Utilities Department at 727-562-4960.
