Portion of McMullen Booth to Close
The southbound lanes of McMullen Booth Road will be closed for repair work on a concrete panel at the railroad tracks Wednesday night. The road should be open in time for rush hour traffic Thursday morning.
The southbound lanes of one of the heaviest-traveled roads in Clearwater will be closed Wednesday night but should reopen in time for rush hour traffic Thursday morning.
Crews from CSX Transportation and Pinellas County will be repairing a concrete panel at the railroad crossing on McMullen Booth Road. The panel serves as a transition from the railroad tracks to the road.
There is an ABBA tribute band playing at 8 p.m. at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Because of that, the work will start at 8:30 p.m. The southbound lanes of McMullen Booth Road south of State Road 590 are expected to reopen by 6 a.m.
Southbound drivers will be detoured at State Road 590 to U.S. 19 and back along Drew Street. Drivers can access the Bayshore Bridge shopping plaza from McMullen Booth Road at the first median opening south of State Road 590.
The northbound lanes will remain open.
This is the third time in less than a year that the road has had to close for repair work. Crews repaired the same section because of a defective concrete panel in June. Crews then had to come back in October to repair a concrete panel because it was noticeably vibrating.
CSX did a major overhaul at the intersection about four years ago. At the time, the road was closed for about three weeks in both directions so crews could install the concrete pads and do other work on the ties and line. CSX officials expected the panel to last at least 10 years. CSX and Penny for Pinellas paid more than $700,000 for the project.
Residents with questions can call CSX Railroad at 877-835-5279.
There also is other roadwork going on in Clearwater:
- The roundabout nightly repaving work should be complete Friday.
- The Belcher Road repaving between Drew Street and East Bay Drive should be complete Friday.
