Now Open in Clearwater: Save A Lot

A Save A Lot grocery store is open in the Cleveland Plaza near Cleveland Street and Missouri Avenue.

East Gateway residents have a grocery store.

An area some consider a food desert because of a lack of grocery stores now has a few options for fresh food items.

The Clearwater Save A Lot recently opened in the Cleveland Plaza.

The grocery chain has more than 1,300 locations nationwide since opening in Cahokia, IL, more than 35 years ago, according to information from its website.

The store is in the same plaza as Nature's Food Patch. While the natural and whole foods store has been in the space for more than 25 years, the store does not necessarily cater to the area's many financially strapped neighbors.

Another option for food in the area can be found at the weekly East Gateway Farmers Market that meets nearby along Cleveland Street and Missouri Avenue.
