Hundreds Mourn Logan Kushner at Kapok Park

A large, candlelit crowd gathered at the creek Monday where Logan Kushner, 19, was found dead after smoking herbal incense.

Hundreds of people carrying burning candles surrounded a stream in Clearwater's Kapok Park Monday evening to remember 19 year-old Logan Kushner; it was the same stream where the popular Palm Harbor University High grad was found unresponsive after smoking herbal incense with a friend.

"He was always happy," said a teen named Taylor who stood solemnly in the dark. "I have great memories of him, we went to the same temple."

Kushner was pronounced dead at early Sunday morning . Clearwater Police say Kushner started acting strange and jumped into the stream after he and a friend smoked the herbal incense "Jazz" at the park.

Kushner got out of the water, but stayed at the park when his friend left because of a curfew. Kushner was later found unresponsive in the water.

That same stream became a gathering spot for the hundreds of friends that Kushner left behind. On Sunday, they created a memorial of photos and flowers placed on a sign overlooking the stream. Monday evening, many more people returned carrying burning candles. The crowd of mourners was so large, Clearwater Police assigned numerous officers to direct traffic. Officers at the memorial say they were told to expect between 500 to 600 people.

Clearwater Police Detectives are awaiting toxicology results to determine if there were any substances in Kushner's system that may have contributed to his death.
