How About These Events at Crest Lake Park?

Clearwater Patch readers shared some of their ideas for 30 days of events at Crest Lake Park.

The Skycrest Neighbors Association recently formed an events committee and challenged themselves to come up with 30 days of events to have in Crest Lake Park as a way to invite people back to the public space.

They started with a list of 15 ideas including a candle light vigil and sky lantern release, sidewalk chalk art and picnic in the park.

Some of the ideas the committee comes up with as well as creating a resolution regarding Crest Lake Park will be discussed at the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the Salvation Army, 1521 Druid Road.

We also asked Clearwater Patch readers for suggestions.

Here is what we got:

Laurie Meggesin: "These are all great ideas. I might add a 5 de Mayo celebration, a Day of the Child/Dia del Nino festival, and a dog-related event tied to Crest Lake's popular dog park. Kudos to Skycrest residents for your wonderful ideas and initiative!"

Michael D.: "What about a 5k around the lake? They have a nice long sidewalk, which would make for a good small race. Break up by age groups, so not everyone is racing at the same time."

Michael Cherry: "Have an Animal health care day and fun with your dogs!!"

When I was a kid, there was an annual egg hunt at Crest Lake Park for Easter. I hope the city will be successful at rehabbing this park. I would love to be able to take my children there, but locked bathrooms and a large homeless population keep us away.

The homeless people don't bother me, i'm more annoyed with non-homeless people who act like fools!! The fact that my family has to race out of there to find a restroom is ridiculous so we don't waste our time, effort, and gas to go anymore. I would love to be able to enjoy a day there, but unless the restrooms are available for use, we will enjoy our day sonewhere else. What a shame...
