Guy Harvey Graphic A Landmark for Beach Walk
Beach goers are excited as the image of turtles, dolphins and Clearwater Beach as seen from the Gulf of Mexico, is installed Thursday.
Crews worked to install a graphic mural by noted nature artist Guy Harvey on the west facade of the recently opened Surf Style parking garage Thursday.
“It’s a landmark for the city,” said Dave Chafin, special projects manager for Guy Harvey Inc.
The giant 3M vinyl is expected to last at least seven years said Todd Stuart of Sign Zoo, the Sarasota company who printed and installed the artwork.
Stuart said the first ititeration of the image included a shark. That was scrapped for the dolphins.
“It’s a big deal,” Stuart said. “A lot of people know Guy Harvey.”
People walking along Beach Walk watched as the crew installed the panels. They liked what they saw — iconic beach imagery plastered to the metal wall.
Dianne and John Robinson of Largo recently moved here from Kentucky. They spent three weeks on vacation here recently. Three days ago they moved to Largo.
They came for the beach lifestyle. And that is what they saw in the image.
“I think it s beautiful,” Dianne, 50, said. “I was admiring it from the walk down.”
Her husband John, 55, said his eye was attracted to the vibrant colors. And the dolphin is his favorite animal.
“When I saw that picture of the dolphin,” John said. “I liked that."
Alex Ruiz of St. Petersburg watched the crew paste the panels of the 44' x 24' image across the street under the shade of a palm.
“It looks nicer right here on the beach,” Ruiz said. “Looks nice man. Very nice man.”
Amanda Sanchez comes to Florida throughout the year from New Jersey.
“They fixed this area up," Sanchez said as she pushed her son Evan in a stroller along Beach Walk. "It's really nice to come around and walk."
Jessica Mendez of Tampa walked her daughter Jessael in a stroller as well.
“When I was walking this way I said 'that is very neat',” Mendez said. “It catches your eye. It's a good representation of the beach. It even has the hotels.”
