Commissioners Plan to Put Fluoride Back in Drinking Water
Newly-elected "pro-fluoride" commissioners Janet Long and Charlie Justice attended their first Pinellas County Commission meeting last week, where commissioners unanimously decided they'll vote Tuesday to put fluoride back into the county's drinking water
Fluoride appears to be making a comeback in Pinellas County, now that the commissioners who voted to remove it about a year ago have themselves been voted out of office.
Newly-elected "pro-fluoride" commissioners Janet Long and Charlie Justice attended their first county commission meeting Nov. 20, where commissioners unanimously decided to put fluoride back into the county's drinking water, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
"When we come back here after Thanksgiving, we are prepared to take that vote and flip that switch," said Long.
The Times reports that commissioners John Morroni and Norm Roche, who opposed fluoride last year, have changed their minds and will vote to put it back in the drinking water.
The Pinellas County Commission plans to vote on the matter during its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Water from the City of Clearwater Public Utilities does not contain flouride.
Do you think fluoride should be put back in Pinellas County's drinking water? Add your comments below.

I can hardly believe this is even an issue... It seems like something from a ridiculous sci fi book. Politicians polluting the tap water with chemicals? Fluoride is poisonous to ingest. If this isn't obvious to you already please google it, do a few minutes of research. It is without doubt BAD for your tummy. Even if it IS somehow good for your teeth (a once widely believed "fact") are we children? Can't individuals just make their own choice as to when & how much they use of this widely available product, and last but not least WHETHER THEY WANT TO SWALLOW IT? Read the label on any fluoride mouthwash or toothpaste. It says to call a Poison Control center if swallowed. I think the same goes for anything said by a politician.

You know, doctors once widely stated as "fact" that smoking cigarettes was healthy too. That was back in the 50s... About the same time fluoride started being added to municipal water sources. Why doesn't the government pump cigarette smoke into the air for us? It would only be consistent after all

I totally agree with colin Maddy. Fluoride is a poison and should NEVER be put in our public water supply! Can't the commissioners do some research before making such uneducated decisions? This is one reason I moved to Pinellas County from Tampa, because of NO FLUORIDE in the water! Let's not revert back to the dark ages on this matter.

Please talk to your dentist. they can tell you the difference between systemic and topical. topical is fine ..more research may need to be done for systemic. its not do or die. we all need to be far more educated.

If people want more fluoride, maybe they should swallow their toothpaste! It's hard to find a toothpaste without it. Does Clearwater have a greater problem with tooth decay (since fluoride is not in their drinking water)? I think probably NOT!

It's indeed worth noting that the newly elected "pro-fluoride" dupes are going to take the entire community back into a bogus "treatment" from the last century. People should wake up and run those "officials" out of town on a rail. Also, please do check and see which ones are receiving funds or stocks from The Mosaic Company, which sells most of its fluoride waste to municipalities.

Fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth. No adult has ever walked out of their doctor's office with a prescription for the fluoride drug because it is deadly poison and the body has no known use for it. It is never included in any multi-vitamin formulation. Drinking it to prevent tooth decay is as foolish as drinking sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Every fluoride toothpaste tube carries the warning "if swallowed, call a poison control center immediately."
As a top scientist and the premier international authority on fluoride, last year Dr. Paul Connett's published his most recent book "The Case Against Fluoride." It contains over 1200 studies (80 pages) and sound scientific reasoning showing the ineffectiveness and dangers to health including cancer, thyroid & pineal gland damage, broken hips from brittle bones, lowered IQ, kidney disease, and other serious health problems.

ABC-TV Blows whistle on fluoridation "How Safe is Fluoride in Your Water?"
http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/abc11_investigates&id=8887007
Fluoridation Opposition is Scientific, Respectable & Growing
More than 4,393 professionals (including 343 dentists and 538 MD’s) urge that fluoridation be stopped citing scientific evidence that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluoridealert.org/researchers/professionals-statement/text/
Hundreds of communities have stopped or rejected fluoridation including Wichita Kansas where residents voted 60-40% against fluoridating the water this year and including Portland Oregon where 33,000 petitioners forced a halt to their ill-advised city council's fluoridation mandate, also this year
Politicians should never be allowed to make health decisions for the rest of us when their primary goal is to get elected not to represent the truth.

Thank you everyone. Yes, I wondered if anyone was speaking up at the commission meeting. I just emailed the commissioners, which is easy to do from the Pinellas County Commissions web site.
Dear Commissioner, As a health professional and resident of Saint Petersburg, I oppose re-flouridation of our water because:
Flouridation Is an Outdated Form of Mass Medication. Unlike other water treatment processes, flouridation does not treat the water itself, but the person consuming it. FDA accepts it is a drug, when used to prevent disease. Therefore flouridating water is a form of medication. This is why most western European nations have rejected the practice--this is because, in their view, the public water supply is not an appropriate place to be adding drugs, particularly when flouride is readily available for individual use in the form of toothpaste.
Finally there is a growing body of evidence to indicate that fluoridated water, can cause or contribute to a range of serious effects, including arthritis, damage to the developing brain, reduced thyroid function, and possibly osteoscaroma in adolescent males.
To conclude, Dr. Arvid Carlsson, Nobel Laureate in Medicine/Physiology states, "Flouridation goes against all principles of pharmacology. It's obsolete"

Thank you Rita. I just emailed the following to the Commissioners:
I am asking you to please vote "NO" regarding adding fluoride back into the public water supply of Pinellas County. I know you may think you are doing the residents a service, but you are actually promoting mass medication without our consent! Fluoride is a poison! No one has ever gone into a doctor's office and left with a prescription for fluoride and there has never been fluoride in vitamins. Leave our health decisions to us! Vote "NO!"
