Clearwater Council Candidacy Kicks Off

Three candidates seeking to serve on the city council filed paperwork to run for office when the election season opened Thursday.

Three candidates seeking to serve on the city council filed paperwork to run for office with the city clerk kicking off the election season.

Vice Mayor George Cretekos, Doreen DiPolito and Jay Polglaze filed paperwork with the city clerk Thursday (Sept. 15), the first day available.

Cretekos' campaign is already begun on Facebook He also recently launched a website for his mayoral campaign. The longtime Clearwater resident is the only person running for the city council's top seat and already has planned a fundraiser for Sept. 26 at the Sheraton Sand Key.

DiPolito is running for seat 2 which will be vacated when councilmember John Doran leaves office at the end of his term. DiPolito is the owner of D-Mar General Contracting. She is a member of the Board of Clearwater Community Development, Clearwater Jazz Holiday and Ruth Eckerd Hall Education Board.

Polglaze is running for seat 3, which would be vacated after Cretekos’ term. Polglaze is on the executive board of the Clearwater Downtown Partnership and co-director of Jazz Force, which is a group of volunteers who help put together the Clearwater Jazz Holiday.
