The YMCA's in Clearwater; St. Petersburg; Tampa and Venice, Florida are participants in a national demonstration project launched by YMCA of the U.S. to help older Americans reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes and reduce costs to the traditional Medicare Fee for Service program.
Through the demonstration project, Ys in 17 communities that deliver the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program will offer the program at no cost to 10,000 qualifying Medicare enrollees over the next three years.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, offered through the YMCA's in Clearwater; St. Petersburg; Tampa and Venice, is an innovative program that helps people with prediabetes make lifestyle changes that lead to greater health. Programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program that help people at high risk for the disease lose 5-7 percent of body weight through healthier eating and increased physical activity can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
