Celebrate Arbor Day with free trees.
The City of Clearwater is giving away two trees to residents from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at the Public Service Complex, 1650 N. Arcturas Ave.
There is also a ceremony where the city will get a Tree City USA flag for the 30th consecutive year from the Florida Division of Forestry.
The 2,100 trees will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. Proof of residency is required.
Each tree will be in a three-gallon tub. Trees available include live oak, American elm, red cedar, bald cypress, southern magnolia, red maple, slash pines, Walters viburnum, and three colors of crape myrtles.
City staff will answer questions relating to maintaining and watering the new trees.
Tree City USA is a national program sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation and administered in Florida by the Division of Forestry. To qualify for Tree City USA status, a city must meet certain criteria which includes establishing an advisory board, enacting a tree ordinance, celebrating Arbor Day annually, and maintaining a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita.
